Fresh Start Spring Cleaning Tips

They say it’s spring! Yes, it is Springtime and for many of us this means it’s time for Spring cleaning. Resetting and refreshing your home during this period sets the tone for new beginnings. If you’re wondering how to go through the process I’ve compiled a few tips for you in the order I think you should follow.

MAKE A CHECKLIST

Having a checklist is one of the most important steps to having a successful spring cleaning. I’ve inserted a downloadable checklist you can use to keep you on track.

BUY CLEANING SUPPLIES

Once you have your checklist together, it’s time to figure out what cleaning supplies you need. You don’t want to start cleaning then realize you don’t have enough or the right supplies needed to complete a task. Check your supply closet to ensure that you have the basics to start and that all of your electronic tools work. The basics would include: vacuum, broom, mop, duster, all-purpose cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, gloves, dish soap, bucket, toilet brush, scrub brush, paper towels, disinfectant wipes, and bleach.

MAKE A SCHEDULE

This is for sure a must do. If using the checklist I provided above, you can easily schedule these rooms into different days. I suggest doing one room type per day to avoid burnout and ensure that each room is given the proper priority. Depending on how many rooms you have in each category, you can gage the amount of days/time you will spend cleaning that specific category. For example, Days 1-2 will be cleaning your bedrooms and on the last day you allotted for cleaning, can be laundry. Make sure that you allot appropriate time for your spring cleaning schedule so you don’t feel rushed or lazy. My suggestion would be one full week of cleaning!

BEGIN THE DECLUTTERING AND CLEANING PROCESS

Now for the juicy part. Actually cleaning! It’s time, the moment you’ve been prepping for is here. Get your supplies ready and start decluttering and cleaning. Again, start with whatever category on the first day that you’ve chosen, and visualize how you would like your space to look. If you are starting with the bedrooms, I suggest going with the closet first and then working your way into the actual room space. Start taking all of those clothes that you know that you will probably never wear again, and put them in a donation box. Then, if you’d like, you can start organizing your closet in rainbow colors, and the types of clothing pieces. For instance, pants would go in one section, long sleeves in another section, and dresses separately all colour coordinated.

Get rid of everything that you know that you, nor any of the other persons that reside in your home no longer use and this would be for every room category. There’s no need to hold onto that box of pasta that you’ve been harbouring in the cupboard for 10 years. Now is the perfect time to get rid of it, along with any other minuscule things that you put off, but you never actually use. Anything that you have not used in the year, unless it’s something that was bought in bulk, should be set aside to either, donate or throw away.

What I like to do to make this process fun and engaging is to listen to some music whatever music you like, that gets you going. Similar to the music you would listen to during a workout, would be best. If you enjoy cleaning with a more calming environment, then you can listen to classical or instrumental. Or if you’re not a music person, you can always have something playing in the background on your television, personal device or radio. You can also listen to audiobooks or even a podcast. These are just my suggestions to make the time go by faster and make the process more enjoyable. You can clean and dance, or clean and catch up on that book or podcast you needed to.

DECORATE

Now, this will be the last to stop in the spring cleaning process. If you would like, it just brings everything together. It is putting the finishing touches on the hard work that you’ve enjoyed for the past week. It’s basically like putting icing on a cake. You’ve done all the work by mixing and prepping, and allowing the baking process to concede, and now you need to put some thing pretty on top. And this is the brown butter cream cheese frosting AKA decor. If you are someone that loves themes like I do, then you can decorate using a perfect spring theme for your home. You can get fresh flowers or fake, that have beautiful spring colors. Change out your curtains or tablescape and decorative pillows. So now, when you look through your home you can truly admire the work that you’ve done and you can see it come to life.

ENJOY!

You’ve done the work. Congratulations! Now indulge in a nice cup of coffee or tea, sit back, and enjoy!!!!

Job well done my lavender friends.
